You may have spied the “Clusters” tab in your LowFruits dashboard.
Today, I’ll show you how clusters work and how you can use them to rank faster.
Let’s take a look!
What Are Clusters in LowFruits?
LowFruits clusters are groups of related keywords you should target in the same article.
The keywords in a cluster have the same intent and at least 40% of the same top 10 search results.
In the example below, both searchers want to see the same results.
That’s why this keyword gets added to a cluster.
Whenever you analyze a new keyword, LowFruits analyzes the SERP again and recreates the cluster.
3+ Reasons You Should Care about Clusters
There are 3 main reasons why you should use clusters:
Grouping Keywords
Clusters make it easier to analyze and use your keyword list.
Since clusters group related keywords together, you get a better overview of the different topics in your niche.
Avoiding Keyword Cannibalization
Whenever you write different content for similar keywords, you are effectively competing against yourself in the SERP.
Keyword clusters prevent this by grouping similar keywords you should target with one article.
When you export your LowFruits Excel sheet for clusters, you’ll see if some of your website URLs already rank for the cluster keywords.
Increase Your Ranking Chances
When you use keyword clusters, you increase your chances of ranking.
You won’t just target one keyword with one article. Clusters help you target secondary keywords, too.
You can cover different topics and questions, and provide comprehensive articles that satisfy the searcher’s intent.
Searchers love comprehensive resources. No one really wants to go back to the SERP. Covering a topic in-depth increases your topical authority.
How to Write an Article Based on Clusters
Which Cluster Should I Target First?
Focus on clusters with keywords that have many weak spots.
It’s easy to rank for them with low Domain Authority.
Main Keyword
Your article title should be your primary keyword.
In your cluster, the primary keyword is the one with the highest search volume.
Secondary Keywords
Other keywords in the cluster are your secondary keywords.
Q: How Should I Use Secondary Keywords?
✔️ In some cases, you can use secondary keywords as H2/H3 headings:
- Title: Best leather sofas
- H2: Best leather sofas for dogs
- H3: Advantages of leather sofas for dogs
- H3: Disadvantages of leather sofas for dogs
- H2: Best leather sofas for kids
- H3: Is leather furniture kid-friendly?
- H2: Best leather sofas for dogs
✔️ In others, you can use them as word variations:
- Main keyword: Best ergonomic sofa
- Secondary: Best ergonomic couch (interchangeable)
❓ Can you cover the secondary keyword in depth? If you can write more than 500 words, write a separate article about it instead. Then, link the two articles to increase your topical authority.
❓ Does your keyword have a 40% similarity score? It may need a separate article. Then, link the two articles to increase your topical authority.

Clusters FAQs
1. What if I’m already ranking for a cluster?
Check the Excel sheet for your cluster.
If you already have URLs ranking for (some of) the cluster keywords, optimize the ranking article:
- Add secondary keywords to the article
- Optimize your meta descriptions
- Add internal links
2. What if several of my URLs rank for the same cluster?
You might have a keyword cannibalization problem.
First, make a list of the URLs and the ranking keywords.
Check the keywords in each article.
If you have duplicates, make the top-performing page your main page for the target keyword.
Then, add secondary keywords and update the content, so it closely reflects the searcher’s intent for the main keyword.
3. Are keyword clusters and topic clusters the same thing?
No, keyword clusters and topic clusters are not to be confused.
Keyword clusters are highly-related keywords, and topic clusters are topics related to your niche and seed keywords.
4. I don’t get any clusters for my keyword
Your keyword might be too broad.
